Tom Brady thanks refs, I mean teammates, for another trip to the Super Bowl

I get it. Haters gonna hate, and I’m just jealous that my team isn’t winning like the Patriots are. That’s what every “Patriots” fan seems to say. Yet they ignore the hundreds of other valid reasons to hate New England.

Last night was another perfect example. Yes the team came back from a 4-point deficit in the first half, but it wasn’t without a little help from the referees. If we’re being honest, the Pats should have lost that game by at least three-points.

New England was taking a beating in the first half. The Pats only legitimate drive came after the opening kickoff. They had 10 plays for 63 yards and finished the drive with a field-goal. In their next three drives, they had a total of 12 plays combined.

So the Patriots called upon an old friend to get them back in the game, the referees. And two bogus pass interference calls later the Patriots were in the redzone. Without the referees assistance the Patriots would have gone into half-time down 14-3.

The bogus calls didn’t end there. In the second half of the game the Patriots found themselves within striking distance of the redzone again in thanks to the refs. Another bad PI call in which the Jaguars defender was clearly making a play on the ball was called in favour of New England.

Then Myles Jack had what should have been a defensive touchdown after a forced fumble. But instead was called down by contact, costing the Jaguars a 27-10 lead. Then once you take into account that the Jaguars were called for six-penalties to the Patriots one, it’s tough not to have serious skeptical hippo eyes.

There are even videos of the referees clearly favouring the Patriots. One of which shows the referee celebrating with New England players after a touchdown. And another one where a referee celebrates with Brady at the end of the game.

Coincidence, maybe. But the Patriots first Super Bowl appearance came at the hands of the referees and the infamous “tuck rule.” Now 16 years later, Tom Brady and the Patriots are going to their eighth Super Bowl again in thanks to the referees.

I’m going to call BS. Maybe I’m biased, but after watching yesterday afternoons AFC Championship, I’m not left with a great taste in my mouth. It feels dirty to me. So with that great bias, I’ll be cheering for the City of Brotherly Love.
