One of the reasons why I consider baseball the best sport ever played is because in just about every game something will happen that you’ve never seen before with your own eyes. Whether it’s Chris Coghlan leaping over the catcher to touch safely cross the plate, or Randy Johnson sending a bird to the afterlife with his fastball, baseball loves to give us moments that a fan might only ever see once. One of those moments happened in the third inning of Friday night’s Toronto Blue Jays game at Dunedin Ballpark against the Atlanta Braves.

This is one of the most impressive feats of athleticism and multitasking you’ll ever see from a fan. This kid who caught Bo Bichette’s two-run bomb just happened to be standing exactly where the ball was set to land, making the glove snag WHILE RECORDING HIMSELF CATCHING THE BALL. As the ball is making its descent back into orbit you can see the kid has both of his arms out, one holding his glove out to catch the homer while the other was filming the whole thing.

This kid was in the right place at the right time and he sure knew it because he was documenting himself from when the ball was hit to when it landed in that Rawlings web. He timed his recording perfectly and caught a ball that left Bo’s bat with a 105mph exit velocity and traveled 420 feet in the air, which isn’t an easy catch to make in itself let alone while holding your phone to capture the play in its entire glory. The videographers who film Planet Earth wait weeks to get the perfect shot of a snow leopard hunting in the mountains of central Asia meanwhile this kid perfectly documented his most impressive moment as a baseball fan within the span of a few innings.

I aspire to be able to multitask one day to the degree that this kid did making this catch while filming it himself. Not only was he able to do all of this on the fly but the fact that he was completely prepared for this moment is bananaland. This kid knew he was gonna catch that damn ball and went out there and did it. It’s the fan version of Babe Ruth calling his shot in the 1932 World Series (which might not even be true), or broadcaster Mike Blowers predicting Matt Tuiasosopo’s first career MLB home run to a tee, except Ruth and Blowers are professionals and this kid is just a Floridian teenager with a ball glove and an iPhone.

To top it off, the kid was wearing Bichette’s shirsey while catching Bichette’s home run. His parents better go buy a lottery ticket.
