Trade Alert: Knicks Trade Kristaps Porzingis to Mavericks

Jan 31, 2019

The Dallas Mavericks have agreed to a deal for New York Knicks star Kristaps Porzingis, according to reports from Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.

When Knicks fans heard the news

The Knicks will receive Dennis Smith Jr.( who they passed on in the draft), DeAndre Jordan, Wesley Matthews and two future first-round draft picks from the Mavericks. Courtney Lee, Tim Hardaway Jr. and Trey Burke will be joining Porzingis in Dallas.

Word on the tweet machine is that this was a play the Knicks had to make when Porzingis told them he would not be returning earlier today following a team meeting.

I know this seems like the sky is falling for Knicks fans but let’s look on the bright side shall we. This deal frees up cap space for the Knicks who are now able to make a push for one of the many superstars in the 2019 free agent class. A class that includes Kevin Durant, Kawhi Leonard, DeMarcus Cousins, Kyrie Irving, Jimmy Butler Klay Thompson and many more. Not to mention the Knicks own the worst record in the NBA and are poised to pick Duke phenom Zion Williamson 1st overall in the upcoming NBA Draft.

On the Mavericks side of the deal Porzingis is teamed up with rookie sensation Luka Dončić for a lethal one-two punch.

If you ask my opinion, big picture, Knicks won the deal. All the needs to happen now, owner James Dolan needs to sell the team. Once that happens it’s the dawn of a new day for the Knickerbockers.
