truLOCAL Trish: Best Cuts for Camping!

Aug 29, 2019

Camping is one of the best summer activities there is. Pick a site, pack up the car, and immerse yourself in nature for a few days. Do life the old fashioned way. Connect with your roots.

It’s also a fun time with friends, and a popular (and wallet-friendly) vacation idea – whether you just go for a weekend or spend a week or two roughing it, you’re bound to have a blast.

Fuelling your body is important for all those beach adventures, canoe trips, or nights gathered around the campfire. It can be easy to munch on snack food and grab-and-go options while you’re braving the elements, but picking a few key cuts of meat to bring can turn a good camping trip into a great one.

Burgers

Whether you go with tried-and-true beef burgers, or a more unique pick like salmon or lamb, burgers are a great choice. They’re easy to transport, and quick to cook up, whether you’re using a small grill or an open flame. Options are endless for toppings, so they can be a fresh and fun option for everyone to enjoy!

Bacon

Who doesn’t love the smell of bacon in the morning? Not only is it absolutely delicious, it’s full of dietary fat, which will help keep you full for those fun-filled days. Bacon strips can be cooked directly on a grill or grate, or they can be cooked in a pan! Bonus – you can use the leftover bacon grease for eggs, meaning fewer dishes to wash!

Ground beef

Yep, you heard that right! Use ground beef (or leaner option ground turkey) in a make-ahead pasta sauce. With the pasta and sauce cooked in advance, it’s an easy meal to transport and to heat up! Alternately, use it in a fajita stir-fry with pre-cut veggies, or make meatballs right on your campsite!

With these staples in tow (and graham crackers, chocolate, and marshmallows…because no camping trip is complete without s’mores), you’ll be all set for some time away from the city.
