Sometimes, you just have a few too many. Bachelor party, Superbowl party, just-because-it’s-Friday party – life throws us all kinds of reasons to celebrate. It happens to the best of us (and getting older doesn’t help). While it might feel awesome while you’re knocking them back, it doesn’t feel so great when you wake up with the Ohio State marching band in your skull.
A night of over-indulgence often ends with some greasy food. It’s a common craving – if not for any nutritional benefit, then definitely as a result of lowered inhibitions. It feels great in the moment, scarfing down shawarma or pizza or poutine to end the night (or day – you do you).
When you wake up the next morning feeling not-so-hot, what’s the best breakfast to grab? Bacon. Or is it? It’s undeniable that bacon is delicious – so for that reason alone, it’s a great choice. But will it help your hangover?
In short – nope.
The myth that eating greasy food lines your stomach and aids in the absorption of alcohol is false. Your liver just needs to process the alcohol and pass it through your system naturally. Typical hangover symptoms are more often caused by dehydration – so the stomach ache, headache, and whole body ache can probably be blamed on a lack of water, rather than a specific food (or lack thereof).
Just because bacon isn’t a cure for a hangover doesn’t mean it’s not still a good option. It’s packed with dietary fat – which can be helpful for getting you back on track post-indulgence. Plus…bacon is the source of happiness. And, hungover or not, we could all use a bit of that.
PS – until September 12th, you can get free bacon for life with your truLOCAL regular box subscription.
