All week we’ve been watching the craziest shit in human history. The truth is really important right now.
No matter what part of the political spectrum we are from, this is the most important time in our existence to ruthlessly search for the absolute truth or the best version of it.
If we can endeavor to always search for fact-based truth in our personal lives in reference to what we believe, forget what we want to believe, examine the role religion plays in our lives and the relationships we sacrifice on behalf of them. In what we watch and what we read and what we listen to, we have to ask ourselves “is that true?”. Then look for legitimate answers to that question from legitimate sources.
We can’t accept “Yunno what I heard?” or “I Googled it” as the truth when we hear it. We have to go one step further when we watch the news and cruise social media as to who is telling us what we believe. Hunt for the truth in matters of politics and science. Find facts that support the truth.
We can’t listen to anyone claiming to represent extremist ideologies of any religious sect or political tribe, who misrepresent fear for gain. If we all apply critical thinking and effort to our belief system by filtering the information we take in through the filter of “Is it true?”. It is critical to make ‘Truth’ a key characteristic in choosing our leaders. We owe it to ourselves not to pick a side based on how we feel, we need to pick our leaders and how we digest information by making sure we have facts to support our conversations and what we share on social media. Sarcasm and jokes aside we can’t share lies that fit our narrative as fact if it’s not.
Ask for facts when someone tells us their version of their truth and disregard news or information from unreliable sources that represent an extreme/religious/political agenda.
Listen, this isn’t just about politics and Trump. We’re at a major crossroads in our history. Truth and facts are important metrics by which we choose the people and media who shape our lives and we’re seeing why.
Kill our egos. Be open to learning and relearning what you thought you knew and do the work to find the truth, always.
