Sweet kick in the ass with a gun in his face too.

There’s a pub near my house that’s legendary.  “The Duchess Of Markham’ is an institution and has been for 40 years.  There’s a table that’s perpetually reserved for a group of fun-loving senior rummies who would die fighting for their bar.

Local pubs in Ireland are more important than churches and most of them are older.  “The Brazen Head” in Dublin is the world’s oldest.  For over 1000 years, Vikings, Normans and the Irish have been getting fucked up in this perfect pub and for good reason.  It’s medieval courtyard and amazing small rooms are nearly untouched and reek of piss and pints and the locals wouldn’t have it any other way.

I’ve been to Dublin 6 times and it’s always the first stop.  Next stop, Kehoes 9.

“Kehoes” is the perfect pub and maybe my favorite place on earth.  Originally a mercantile store 200 years ago EVERY piece of the decor is original and walking through the doors feel like an alcoholic time warp.  I don’t drink anymore but it doesn’t matter.  Walking into a room where Michael Collins started planning the Irish revolution over pints in one of their private booths gives you the chills and those pints, are pumped at room temperature from the basement on 200-year-old taps.  It’s a religious experience whether you drink or not if you love history.

That’s why 85-year-olds would rather take multiple hammers to the head then let some puke sully the religious drinking experience which is his local Irish pub.
