Saturday afternoon in the city and Yonge Dundas Square is a smoking room only! As in Smokes Poutinerie! All though, there was another aroma in the air as well.  It smelled like a victory if victory smelled like bar garbage from Jack Astors on a Saturday morning.

Bottom line, Smoke’s Poutinerie held the World Poutine Eating Championship last weekend and DeanBlundell.com was there for the ENTIRE show.  If it’s free, it’s for me, PLUS, I’ve never been to a food eating competition.

Two birds meet one stone.

The arctic blonde gentleman on the right who looks like a snack is Dean.  Relax, older smoke.  He’s taken

The line up for free poutine was a large one but kept on moving steadily throughout the day. They fed a very happy bunch of poutine lovers and displaced peoples wandering around Yonge Dundas Square.  Thank’s to our friend @brocksteetbrewing, @duchamps1887, @heinz_ca, @skipthedishes and @monsterenergy, who gave out free Monster drinks and haircuts. There was also a KISS cover band, Destroyer who rocked the afternoon away complete with chains and free nipples at 10 am in minus 20-degree weather.

Our own Jimmy the Prince was nice enough to assist our Norweigan friends with a pre-warm-up rub down. We had some Norwegian comedians in attendance, ‘El Gordo’ Nickolay Ramm and  ‘The Stomach’ Espen PA Lavaarg.

Funny fuckers.  Nickolay and Espen host Norway’s biggest TV Show called NRK Sport.  They travel the world partaking in the weirdest shit they can find and Smokes Pountinerie’s ‘World Poutine Eating Championship’ qualified.  They joined us for the podcast to break down strategies.: Training VS Drinking.

Jimmy the Prince, always a class act, did not turn down the nipple rub!

It an pretty action-packed day as Mayor John Tory made an appearance.  The event had 39 CEO’s and exec’s take place in an eating challenge for Friends of We Care managing to raise over $153,000 for @friendsofwecare.  That’s why the event takes place, don’t you know.

The food competition was intense. I had no idea this was such a dedicated group of people. It was truly impressive. I was standing maybe 6  feet away, taking video and I swear to god, there was a flurry of cheese curds and sauce flying through the air as the competitors stuffed their faces.

The stage floor looked like a clinic floor after 10 hours of free skin tag removal’s and Joey Chestnut was crowned the winner setting a new world record eating 28.5 pounds of poutine in 10 minutes flat! Not an easy accomplishment my friends.   Neither is pushing it out the next day and Joey was kind enough to stop into the DeanBlundell.com studio’s to discuss the process of moving his bowels after an event.  All I heard was ‘A series of 3-pound dumps’ but the rest is terrific.

#161 DeanBlundell.com Podcast with Joey Chestnut, Ryan Smolkin, Miki Sudo and Nick Wehry

Next year’s event is already in the planning as Smoke-A-Palozza promises to kick off the summer of 2020, “Plaid Nation” style!

Shout out to Ryan for letting the Dean Blundell Crew join you for the day!

Cannabis Phil

It has been amazing to see the cannabis industry grow exponentially over a couple of years, to see this kind of growth is a once in a lifetime opportunity. I first started in the industry as a writer/photographer for High! Canada Magazine, interviewing some top people in the cannabis space. Eventually, I started doing content/video work, social media coverage of various cannabis events across North America, catching the pulse of what was going on and partaking in a quite a few sessions, meeting some truly amazing people on the way. In my previous enslavement (aka "career"), I was involved in the business side of things, so I do have an invested interest in the business aspect. Coming into my somewhat “village elder years”, I hope to bridge the gap between generations, in hopes of breaking the stigma and showing others it's okay to get high, while possibly showing them how. My passion for cannabis and writing covers; strain reviews, vapes, dabs, shatter, social media coverage of events, new products, patient advocacy, innovations and the business of cannabis.
