GLOBAL: During a debate on conversion therapy in the House on Friday, Conservative MP Tamara Jansen cited a bible verse as she spoke out against the Liberal bid to protect LGBTQ2 youth from the practice.

“I’m going to invoke the words of the Apostle Matthew,” said Jansen.

“‘Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees. You hypocrites! You’re like whitewashed tombs, which look beautiful on the outside, but on the inside are full of the bones of the dead and everything unclean.’”
As a gay man, Liberal MP Rob Oliphant said he found the use of the verse “deeply offensive.”

“People like me are not unclean and it is deeply offensive to play Bible baseball like that,” said Oliphant.

“I know my Bible very well…I understand every word that scripture, having studied it and having a doctorate in theology. Madam Speaker, that is offensive to even use that word in the context of this debate.”

The Liberal bill at the heart of the debate is aimed at criminalizing conversion therapy-related conduct in Canada. It proposes five new Criminal Code offences related to the practice, and would make it illegal to cause a minor to undergo conversion therapy — or to remove a minor from Canada to undergo conversion therapy abroad.

A) Fuck the Bible.  The one Tamara uses (KJV Version) was hustled together by King James and his asshole theologians to institute new power and control over the British Empire.  Also, most of the shit in there is made up.  Noah’s ark?  Jonah and the whale? Jesus flying into the sky on a cloud elevator after spending three days rotting in a cave?

RIGHT.

B) Tamara Jansen smiles when she spins hate.  That’s what born-again evangelicals do.  NOTHING and I mean NOTHING is more important to them than governing Canadians with the ‘Word Of God’.  Sure, Tamara swore an oath to protect the citizens of Canada regardless of race, sexual preference, etc, but no evangelical extremist takes their oath of office seriously.  Their eternal salvation is predicated on serving evangelical Christianity as laid out by their denomination and how their elders and teachers interpret that dicked-up  work of fiction they call the bible.  The Bible strictly prohibits gay sex and evangelicals like Tamara are ‘Warriors of Christ’ who love hateful scriptures, have to follow biblical teachings, or risk losing out on the kingdom of heaven in the afterlife.

There’s a pretty simple solution to dealing with smiling assholes like Tamara Jansen: Vote her out of office.   She’s not serving Canadians, she’s serving Jesus.

Vote every hyper-religious member of parliament out regardless of their religion if they put that religion ahead of the common good.  Who gives a shit about religion when the lives of our LGBT youth are at stake?  Religious zealots with a cockamamie life perspective predicated on hatred, that’s who.

The Tamara Jansens of this world shouldn’t be deciding what’s best for our trans, gay, and lesbian youth.  Born-agains are told to hate “The sin of homosexuality,” yet they are somehow involved in deciding what’s best for an entire generation of young human beings who need allies?

Fuck that.

Do you and rely on the people who love you for support, not some evangelical bitch in glasses who hates your very essence because a 2000-year-old book told her to.
