Video: Hello David Rittich! Goodbye Freddy Andersen!

Apr 12, 2021

Probably not the way he wanted to end his tenure as a Leaf but the writing is on the wall for Freddy Andersen.

Rittich was an All-Star a couple of years ago and the move gives the Leafs some depth in net, and if Dubas plays his cards right, he might be able to shed 3.25 million in cap space if he can find Freddy a new home.

He’s a UFA this summer and with Campbell (11-0), Rittich and Hutch, his cap hit is a problem for a team that needs to create some today.
If they can find a way to spin trades for Kerfoot and Andersen, they’ll have close to 7 million to bring in an impact player (or two) with term.
Josh Manson comes to mind. Jamie Oleksiak would be lovely. Seth Jones would look terrific in a Leaf jersey.
But Andersen has to go and so does Kerfoot. With the emergence of Engvall and the addition of Foligno and Riley Nash, it makes perfect sense.

It makes me wonder how hurt Freddy is. Is this a Joffrey Lupul/Stephane Robidas injury? Or is Freddy’s luck just pure garbage?
When I hear Freddy’s name I just hear ‘Cap Space’ so just do it, Kyle. You told us you were all in yesterday and now would be a great time to pull the trigger.
