Video: Jason Spezza’s Hat Trick In 9:30, Wasn’t Bad For A 37 Year Old Who Was On Waivers Last Week

Jason Spezza is a geriatric hockey god.

Spezza is the very definition of a ‘beauty’.

He’s been marginalized, scratched, and put on waivers in the past month and all he’s done is respond like a pissed off teenager, and I fucking LOVE him for it.

All he’s done is shut up and put up 7 points in his last 5 games (5 goals, 2 assists) while carrying a team that seemingly didn’t want him, on his 37-year-old back.
Jason Spezza turned back the clock last night and no one was happier for Spezza than the kids, who acted like it was Christmas morning after Spezza’s third goal. Spezza walked around the Canucks’ best defender, undressing Thatcher Demko like you see in your Sunday night men’s rec league game.

The Canucks are a hot mess but every one of Spezza’s goals was EARNED. Nothing cheap. No tipped pass goals or garbage bounces. 37-year-old Spezza put Demko in a straight jacket with two absolute piss missiles, followed by a filthy dangle on a rush from his own blue line.

I’ve said it a million times, but we don’t deserve Jason Spezza. He doesn’t want to win the cup, he wants to win the cup with the team he always wanted to play for, growing up in the GTA.
When he was put on waivers last month, Spezza said if he was picked up, he’d retire because his goal isn’t just to hoist the Stanley Cup. He wants to be crowned a Champion with the Toronto Maple Leafs.

If it weren’t for the old guys (Jason Spezza and Wayne Simmonds), the Maple Leafs wouldn’t have the best record in the NHL and Jamie Benn wouldn’t be embarrassed this morning.

The Leafs’ fourth line of Robertson, Boyd, and Spezza was unfair last night because the straw that stirred that drink is closing in on 38 and he wanted it more than anyone else.

What’s not to love?  Get on the ‘Vintage Spezza’ train.  It’s fun and there are zero expectations.
