Las Vegas Raiders DE Carl Nassib comes out as gay
He also announced a $100K donation to the Trevor Project, a suicide prevention organization for LGBTQ youth. pic.twitter.com/5Xobd9s0pp

Carl had 2.5 sacks and 28 tackles for the Raiders this year. What makes Carl’s announcement so fucking cool is he’s doing it as an active player with 2 years left on his 3 year, $25 million dollar deal.

Nassib probably just made the lives of millions of young LGBTQ athletes a little bit easier today by taking the biggest chance of his life and I couldn’t be more impressed. Brave people come out but heroes like Carl pave the way for those people by simply living their truth and I don’t think straights like us understand how powerful Carl Nassib’s announcement is for those living in fear. Athlete culture hasn’t been kind to gay men and Carl’s announcement, in the middle of his NFL career, will help other athletes feel comfortable enough to be who they are regardless.
The only difference between Carl and straight NFL players? His name.
