Video: Selfie Deaths Are A Problem And This Video Proves It

Jun 17, 2022

Since 2008 over 420 human beings have died taking selfies or “risky” photo’s for the gram.

That’s one every 13 days.

I can’t decide if this woman had a death wish OR if her husband wanted the insurance money…

Selfie deaths happen A LOT. It’s a pandemic among the stupid THB. People who think it’s cool to take video selfies with oncoming trains are my favorites.

Source: A study by the Spanish iO Foundation, which specializes in tropical diseases, has revealed that between January 2008 and July 2021 at least 379 people – one out of every 13 days on average – have been killed in this way. It is a growing trend, one that after a brief hiatus due to the coronavirus pandemic has resurfaced during the first seven months of this year, during which time there have been 31 fatal accidents – one per week – despite the raft of travel restrictions still in place worldwide.

“It is a growing problem that, because of the dimensions it has taken on, can now be considered a public health issue. The study has helped us to put it into context and that is the first step toward taking preventive action,” says Manuel Linares Rufo, president of the iO Foundation and lead researcher on the report, the largest of its kind carried out to date. Tourists accounted for 141 deaths during the period under investigation, compared with 238 fatalities among local residents. This shows that the tendency to take risks is much higher among the former, taking into account that only a tiny fraction of the world’s population is traveling at any given moment.

It’s only a “growing problem” when Darwin is done. Until then, it’s a great viral video.

As a solid Gen Xr, the embarrassment of setting up a scene where I record myself or take a pic for the gram overwhelms me to the point where I don’t do it. Also, I don’t need someone to know who I am, based on how close I can get to the edge of a 1200 cliff or an oncoming train. I like my face and life, so I do things that don’t include cheating death for a viral Twitter pic.

I’m not better than these people. Actually, I am, and so are you.

Keep it that way.
