Video: The Edmonton Oilers Are Approaching Buffalo Sabres Level Sadness

May 24, 2021

I used to say ‘No-one loses like Buffalo’ and I’m starting to think we can add Edmonton to that loser list.’
The Oilers, down 0-2, blew a 3 goal lead in the third, losing 5-4 in OT, and the city of Edmonton is losing its fucking mind.

They went from 4-1 to 4-4 in 3:03 including two goals 16 seconds apart from Wheeler and Morrisey, btw.

It looked like the Oilers had righted the ship after going up 4-1 until the Jets scored 3 goals in 3 minutes in the 3rd and as much as I love the Oilers it was hilarious to watch.

After 10 years of drafting first overall, the Oilers looked poised to put the last 25 years behind them entering the playoffs and after losing the first two at home they had game 3 in the bag until this happened:

Then Nick Ehlers ended in 9 minutes into OT and just like that, the Edmonton Oilers are a game away from an entire off-season wondering if Connor McDavid will beg Ken Holland for a trade to Toronto for Sandin, Nylander, and anyone else not named Marner or Matthews.

The letdown this must be for the franchise is nothing compared to the feeling Oilers fans are experiencing. Down 0-3 to a team they blasted during the regular season with some serious injury issues, the Edmonton Oilers are on death’s door along with an entire city’s expectations. After a year of lockdowns and restrictions, Oilers fans thought they’d be a shoo-in for the North Division Final and now they have to win 4 straight including tonight’s game 4 on the heels of last night’s EPIC collapse.
Shouldn’t be a problem.

McDavid and Draisatl were TERRIBLE defensively in the third period, so you can start with them if you’re looking to point fingers.  Sure they had 3 pts each, but the last time I checked, playing defensive hockey with a 4-1 lead in the 3rd is fairly important.

Josh Archibald’s clipping penalty didn’t help either.

The good news?  Leaf fans can now use ‘4-1’ to chirp Oilers fans and Toronto’s path to a North Division Championship/Conference final just got a little easier.

There’s no time to re-group if you’re an Oilers fan.  The Jets go for the sweep tonight and if the Oilers lose, it’s time to start talking about whether Edmonton is the ‘City Of Champions’ or if they need to change their motto to ‘Buffalo North’.

PS: Leafs in 5.
