Was Losing To The Calgary Canucks So Bad That Vancouver Will Think About Claiming Jason Spezza?

If you clicked on this, you’re already deep into conspiracy theories, and thank you for coming.

I think this is called the kicker.

The Canucks were embarrassed in their first game against the Flames this season for multiple reasons that include but aren’t limited to half the team they faced wore blue and green less than five months ago. It’s tough to gameplan when your opponents have been on the inside and know your innermost secrets.

Being shutout by a goaltender that rarely put up a shutout for you in the past is another dagger that continues to twist in the wound ala John Travolta in Face/Off:

Much like Jamie’s information session with her fake dad, the Canucks also needed to learn how to inflict damage on others because they sure as stumps didn’t do it against the Flames. They incurred one COVID injury* and apparently, their team is a dumpster fire overnight?

Jake Virtanen moved up the lineup in what many people thought was the ultimate opportunity to rise up but after two games saw Nils Höglander get shifts with 2/3 of the Lotto Line.

Who could come into the lineup and solve all the world’s problems?

The Vancouver Canucks are only three games into the season and people are already wondering if the worst contract in team history should be activated into the lineup once more.

Stockholm syndrome at its finest. No pun intended. Ok, kind of.

One hour later, the entire world turned another revolution:

OK, so this is the immediate future but with noted cringe-worthy laugher Jason Spezza going on waivers today, I wonder if the Canucks should kick tires on the aging multi-use forward?

It’s Sunday morning and I’ve had one coffee so I assure you I’m not drunk, a bit quirky, but not drunk. Could adding Spezza to a confused top-9 on the Canucks be a band-aid the team could afford to apply? I mean, why not?

It’s a 56-game schedule and you only play Canada. Last season, Spezza played 58 games with the Leafs and notched 9 goals and 16 assists. He also had two PPG. There are parallels between both the Canucks and Leafs so his utilization would be similar.

Vancouver is struggling to make its existing roster work and would it be so bad to try out a player like Spezza over the much-debated Loui Eriksson?

This is a season that warrants taking the odd chance even if it’s only for a short while. If things don’t work out, dump him on the waiver wire and let a new sucker take a chance at him.

Who doesn’t have $700k to throw around for a few months?

Personally, I do not. But I know an owner that likes to spend frivolously on players past their prime.
