Yesterday, Liberal Minister Dominic Leblanc announced that Quebec appeal court justice Marie-Josée Hogue, a judge in Quebec’s top court for the past eight years and has been practicing law since 1987, will lead the inquiry into foreign interference.
Leblanc also announced that the probe will go beyond just China’s interference in the last two elections and will look into any interference by any foreign country or entity.
Watch:
Of course, Pierre Poilievre’s former campaign manager, Ontario Proud’s Jeff Ballingall, immediately went on the attack to discredit Justice Hogue.
My latest over at @thecriermedia!
It’s already started! Pierre Poilievre’s former campaign Manager, Ontario Proud’s Jeff Ballingall, attacking judge named to head foreign interference inquiry #cdnpoli #CPC23 https://t.co/SiZHHAeAal

So predictable.
Earlier today, Prime Minister Trudeau was asked about the expanded inquiry and had this to say:
“It’ll go where the facts bring them.”
The Prime Minister also said the he welcomes the opportunity to appear before the inquiry.
So, a full and open inquiry to investigate all interference. To protect Canada’s democracy!
This is what the New Democrats have been pushing for all along. The Liberals are going ahead with it. All parties agreed on having Hogue lead the inquiry.
So, SURELY, all elected Members of Parliament would support such an inquiry, right?
Well, you’d think, eh?
Earlier Conservative Member of Parliament and Chair of the Standing Committee on Access to Information, Privacy and Ethics, John Brassard, called into question the inquiry’s legitimacy by saying expanding its scope beyond China is ” gonna watering things down.”
Watch:
(I included the preamble to the clip of Brassard. Skip to the 1:28 mark to see Brassard’s remarks.)
“I think you’re broadening the scope as much as they want to, then it’s gonna water things down.”
Expanding the scope is “gonna water things down”? What the hell is Brassard talking about?
So, Conservatives have been screaming from the rooftops that we must have a public inquiry into foreign interference, but not ALL interference!
Does that mean they think that *some* foreign interference is OK?
In what twisted, sick world is it seen as a bad thing to investigate and put a stop to ALL foreign election interference?
Oh, right.
This kind of statement is Brassard just planting the seeds of doubt.
Pierre Poilievre’s Conservative Party of Canada seems afraid of something.
What could that possibly be?
Oh, right. The occupation of our nation’s capitol.
Plus there’s this:
HARPER’S ASSISTANT CHAIRMAN OF THE INTERNATIONAL DEMOCRATIC UNION, MIKE ROMAN, INDICTED YESTERDAY IN GEORGIA ALONG WITH TRUMP
I wonder how long it’ll be before Pierre Poilievre starts saying things like “watered down” about the investigation and “liberal insider something something Trudeau Foundation” about Justice Hogue.
Hey, Pierre. Did you get your security clearance yet, bud?
