Video: A Costly Win For The Maple Leafs As Auston Matthews Could Be Out Awhile
Source: Auston Matthews ran into a heap of Trouba Saturday night, but his Maple Leafs still managed to come out with two points.
Despite their top scorer going down early in the second period with a shoulder injury, they staged a three-goal comeback in the third to avoid a fourth loss in six starts at Scotiabank Arena.
Capped by goals 26 seconds apart from Jake Gardiner and Kasperi Kapanen with 3:11 to play, they coasted a 3-2 victory and home-and-home sweep of the Winnipeg Jets. But Matthews’ plight was the centre of attention afterward.
“We’ll know more Monday,” said coach Mike Babcock. “He won’t play (that night against Calgary). He’s not ready right away for sure.”
The suspicion was a separation which could mean Matthews is out a week or two. A forward will have to be recalled from the Marlies as the Leafs only have Andreas Johnsson in reserve and might have to move Par Lindholm back to centre from left wing.
Well if they can shit-can the best team in the west minus Matthews that means A) I ain’t scared and B) We should have a Nylander sighting fairly soon…..
What a comeback tho. I never doubted Jake Gardiner. Never. Not once. Well maybe once in game 7 last year for 60 minutes but I’m over it.
