Source:  The second-year winger completed his first career hat trick before the game was 13 minutes old, helping the Toronto Maple Leafs rout the Philadelphia Flyers 6-0.

“That’s how hockey is,” said Johnsson, who entered with two goals in 18 games after scoring twice in nine appearances as a rookie. “Sometimes you miss all your chances, sometimes you score. Everything went in.”

John TavaresPatrick Marleau and Josh Leivo also scored, and backup goalie Garret Sparks made 35 saves for his first shutout of the season and the second of his career. Mitch Marner added two assists.

“(Johnsson) and Sparky led the way today,” Tavares said. “Got off to a hell of a start.”

Neither team was assessed a penalty for the second consecutive game at Scotiabank Arena. The NHL’s last penalty-free game before this week came in March 2017.

Calvin Pickard, who was claimed by the Flyers on waivers from Toronto before the start of the season, allowed four goals on six shots for Philadelphia (10-11-2) before being pulled. Anthony Stolarz allowed two goals on 34 shots in relief.

OMG, I felt terrible for Calvin Pickard.  Not only was he facing his best friend at the other end in Garrett Sparks, but he’s also the guy the Leafs didn’t want and probably wanted this more than the drugs they give you before a rectal exam.

The Leafs won but you genuinely feel for Pickard getting shelled for 4 goals and not making it through the 1st period.  Sucks for the kid.  I hope he bounces back It wasn’t a great game to watch.  The Leafs outshot the Flyers 500 – 2 but you could clearly see the game was on him before it started.  A couple bad goals early to Johnsson and the entire team gave up (which was a huge tell about this Flyers team).

Nylander is signing this week apparently and coming off a 6-dick drubbing of a Flyers team on early season life support makes me happy today.  I’m gonna go finish watching Narcos ‘Mexico’

If you want to watch the most complete 60 minutes the Maple Leafs have played all season, here you go.
