After the Statements by Members and before Question Period, the Speaker of the House, Greg Fergus, rose to make a statement about conduct and decorum in the House of Commons.
So, of course, Pierre Poilievre and the Conservative Party of Canada tried to stop him.
The Speaker is trying to make a statement on decorum before starting QP. PP and the Cons are interrupting him / trying to prevent the speaker from making his statement.#qP #cdnpoli

It started out with Pierre Poilievre standing and pretending that he could ignore the Speaker and start question period all on his own.
So, as Speaker Fergus started to give his speech, he saw that Poilievre stood up on what he would have assumed was a point of order.
No, Poilievre just starts to blurt out his first question for QP.
Fergus stopped him and said that QP would start after he gave his statement. To which Poilievre can be heard responding by saying, “It’s question period now.”
Fergus calmly reiterates that QP will start after he gives his statement. Well, Poilievre’s co-worker/ tenant, Michael Cooper, didn’t like the sounds of that and yelled out, “QUESTION PERIOD!”
Watch:
In that clip, Andrew Scheer ran over to grab a copy of the rule book (or whatever it’s called for the Hoc). This was, of course, all planned ahead and staged by Poilievre and the gang, as Speaker Fergus had previously announced that he would be making a statement about decorum in the House.
So, of course, Andy got up next to try to stop the Speaker from speaking.
“I would just like to remind the Chair of, ah, Standing Order (5)(a), Time for Statements by Members, Oral Questions and orders of the day. “At 2 p.m. on Mondays, sorry. Not later than 2:15 p.m., as the case may be, Oral Questions shall be taken up.” Shall be taken up, not “may” be taken up. Shall be taken up. It’s well past 2:15, Mr. Speaker.”
Seems as though Conservative Party of Canada Members of Parliament are real sticklers for the rules in the House of Commons! Well, SOME rules. Well, not even ‘some’ – basically, this ONE rule this ONE time.
Speaker Fergus tried to continue, but Scheer stood on a point of order and rudely stated that the Speaker “ought to know” the rules.
Here’s that clip, just for the record:
Speaker Fergus tried, once again, to continue to give his statement. He was rudely interrupted and heckled by CPC MPs. Then, the Leader of His Majesty’s Loyal Opposition, Pierre Poilievre, rose on a point of order.
Watch this clip that I’m calling “The One Where Pierre Poilievre Lies.”
Listen to him stumbling and stuttering. That’s how you know he’s lying when he says:
*GULP* “Now I see, um, Mr. Speaker, if I may, this is the first time in all of my years here that I have seen a Speaker interrupt question period to make a speech. I’ve never seen it. I’ve never seen it.”
This is a lie. That is Pierre Poilievre standing in the House of Commons telling a lie. A bald-faced lie. The lying liar, Pierre Poilievre, is lying about reality itself. I haven’t been watching Question Period for as long as Pierre Poilievre has been a Member of Parliament, and even I immediately knew that he was lying.
Speaker Fergus IMMEDIATELY called out Pierre Poilievre on his BS.
Watch:
“I would like to thank the Honourable Member from Carlton for his intervention. I would like to inform the House though this is not the first time that the Speaker has interrupted the proceedings to make a statement from the chair between the point of SO-31’s and oral questions.”
*Clapping*
“Colleagues. Colleagues. So that everybody can understand this very clearly. My immediate predecessor, for example, has done this at least on two occasions. It also has been done by Speakers in the past.”
He then invited all Members to listen to his statement in order to bring greater order and decorum in the House.
That last voice you heard screaming was, yet again, Michael Cooper.
-
(I hear he likes to eat his fishes raw.)
Speaker Fergus then proceeded to make his statement.
You can watch the entire exchange over on CPAC.
QUESTION PERIOD October 18, 2023
Jump to the 20:00 mark to see Pierre’s Clown Party of Canada shit show.
Jump to the 29:50 mark to hear Speaker Fergus’ speech.
What we can’t see on camera is what Pierre Poilievre’s Conservative Party members did during Fergus’ speech.
Liberal MP Adam van Koeverden tweeted this:
I’m proud of my friend @GregFergus.
As Speaker of the House of Commons, he rose today, as is his right, to speak to the issue of decorum in this chamber.
The Conservatives protested. Many of them stood up, turned their back to him, left the chamber. Others hollered & heckled. pic.twitter.com/92eiXjAdHO

The Conservatives have become belligerent in the House of Commons.
They don’t respect the authority of the speaker or any basic rules of dignity or decorum during debate. Their leader, Pierre Poilievre revels in the chaos and encourages the disorder.
It’s embarrassing.

I’m proud of Speaker Fergus for standing up for the dignity & integrity of this House. Canadians ought to be proud of the debate they see in Question Period, not ashamed of the people they elect.
Speaker Fergus is leading by example – Canadian democracy will be better for it.

Deplorable. That is Poilievre/CPC’s reaction to the Speaker of the House of Commons calling for some basic human decency, decorum and respect from Members of Parliament in the House.
At the 32:35 mark on the video linked above a CPC MP interrupted Fergus with a PoO to ask the Speaker how much longer he “expects to continue.” I guess the kids were getting unruly and bored having to sit there quietly like adults.
The Speaker didn’t even bother to name what riding the MP was from.
Watch:
So not only did Fergus call out Poilievre on his lie, but he EVEN quoted the former Speaker, Andrew Scheer, during his speech!
*CHEF’S KISS*
I don’t know what the former insurance company coffee boy, Andy Scheer, thought of that, but it led to this interaction after QP:
So, during his statement before Question Period, Speaker Fergus quoted the speaker from 2012. Who was that? Well none other than former leader of the #CPC, @AndrewScheer.
So I wonder what Scheer said to Fergus during this exchange after today's QP‽ pic.twitter.com/79Q1FIF5Qu

That didn’t look like a friendly exchange to me.
If you ask me what this is really about, Pierre and the Cons want to claim that they’re being silenced, stifled or cancelled by the Speaker from now on. They should have the right to act out like feral children hopped up on goofballs and not have to follow any rules of the House.
Conservatives will claim they’re the victims by being asked to behave like adults.
That. Plus, the worldwide attack on democracy by the far right and their never-ending quest to destroy all social and political norms.
There’s also that.
