Canada’s new law legalizing recreational cannabis goes into force on Wednesday. Here what you need to know about what’s legal and what’s not under this historic piece of legislation:

If you’re not 19, forget it: Just like drinking, you have to be 19.  No exception to purchasing recreational weed.  I’m sure every minor out there will respect the move to legalize and abstain…

If you smoke weed or give weed to someone who’s underage, you’re probably going to jail:  Again, same rule.  If you supply minors with booze, you’re hooped.  Same with Cannabis.  if you’re caught smoking weed as a minor it’s the same charge as being caught with booze.    Underage ‘smoking ticket’ or depending on how much you have, juvenile detention facility.

You can’t advertise the stuff ESPECIALLY where kids are involved:  This rule seems ironic considering the all-out promotion of booze to basically everyone.  Hockey has an official beer, the LCBO tells you what wine to buy with dinner, and advertising ‘fruity booze’ doesn’t just appeal to adults.  Alcohol has ZERO net health benefits and was responsible for 4 million deaths worldwide last year.  Cannabis?  0.  If you’re moving weed into the market as an alternative it would only seem logical to advertise it responsibly.

You can actually have a shit pile of it without getting busted for trafficking:  you can legally have 30 grams of the stuff.  Weed or Oil are allowed only if you purchased it from a legal and provincially/federally licensed shop.  You can grow up to four plants on your own unless you live in Manitoba or Quebec because those provinces suck ass.  For now, edibles are off the table which is too bad because Sativa gummies or Shatter Bars are life changers.  you can make all the oil and butter you want as long as you don’t sell it.

You can only get it online (for now) and stores will be coming within the year:  Love Doug Ford or hate him in Ontario, but he certainly sped this thing up going online then private.   The original idea of housing pot shops in already busy and provincially owned liquor stores was stupid and almost unobtainable by the legalization date.  And to calm everyone down, the province has been stockpiling weed for over a year so they won’t run out.

They won’t kill you with Delivery Charges:  Every delivery is 5 bucks flat and the dope will be safe and clean.

Don’t smoke and drive:  Better we tell you that instead of having your cheek swabbed at a roadside check.  Same rules for DUI apply to SUI (I made up the SUI thing right there.  I hope it sticks. TM)

Your drug plan might already cover it or be forced to do so:  Work paying for your weed is like having a staff Xmas party every day.  Due to the proven medical benefits, the Canadian Gov’t is making Canadian employers include covering your vape pen in your coverage.
