I thought I had something good going, but I looked like a douchebag.

I put this outfit together on purpose this morning. I looked at myself in the mirror in my bedroom, and I thought yep, I look good. Then I caught a glimpse of myself in the mirror by my front door and realized I looked really douchey.
Unlike some of my colleagues here at the network (Dean Blundell), I care about my look. I’ve spent a lot of time figuring out what works for me. I wear a lot of sports gear, but I didn’t want to just be a dude with a jersey; the look had to work.
Basically, my goal is, if I showed up to a live sporting event, I’d fit in. If we went out for drinks after, I’d fit in. I want to match, I want to look clean, and I want my outfit to bang. I received a compliment from a buddy’s wife who said, “Ray is the only guy I know that can show up in a hoodie and a ball cap, and somehow it works. You can tell he took time getting dressed”.
I’m a huge advocate that guys need to care about what they wear. You can still wear your sports gear or band t-shirts. You just have to put it together and accessorize it.
Sometimes when trying to be a 36-year-old cool dad, you miss, and I missed. That being said, I’m not changing. I will enjoy dropping my kids off at volleyball and work, looking like a douche.
Sometimes you just have to have fun in life.
