Woman Who Tried To Adopt A Dog Goes Viral After Posting Her Exchange With Adoption Agency

Mar 19, 2021

This woman’s story caught my eye because I’ve been on the receiving end of these emails and I’m convinced dog adoption sites are just there to collect people’s email addresses and personal info.

What the actual fuck??

‘This dog won’t run with you so take your request and fuck off!  We’re in charge here!’

Normally I’d chalk this exchange up to one bad employee at an adoption agency, but responses like this are endemic in the dog adoption world.

I’ve applied to dozens of dog adoption agencies over the past 6 months.  I work from home, have a fenced yard, and live 40 feet from a massive dog/community park which I walk in every day for at least an hour.  I’ve had dogs for decades and have 3 kids who would love to adopt a homeless, good boy or girl to love and dote on.

The responses (if I got one) ranged from “we’re too busy” to “we don’t adopt dogs to single-parent homes”.

My favorite story of me attempting to adopt an unwanted dog comes from a ‘rescue’ in Ontario who I won’t name.

Their process to adopt just asked you for an email address.  That’s it.  No personal information or specific request for information.  They wanted an email address and promised to reply asap.

3 weeks later I received a reply that said I wasn’t a good match for any of their animals.  I replied with “how is it possible for you to ascertain my home isn’t appropriate for a dog by my email address”.

I received no reply.

Another agency told me they’d rather place a dog in a home with two parents.

Another told me my kids were too old for any of their dogs. (20,17,15).

Another told me they didn’t like my old radio show.

The rest never responded.

The more I think about dog adoption agencies the more I think they are nothing more than a scam to get people’s personal information.  Pet Finders might be the worst.  They send you 40 adoption matches a day but never reply to any inquiries.   The goal?  Gather as many email addresses and phone numbers as possible then sell them to the highest bidder.

Last week I read that Donald Trump has a dog adoption charity scam that raised 1.8 million dollars which went to his daughter-in-law, Lara.  If you think about it, dog and dog adoption agencies are everywhere yet no one seems to be able to adopt a dog and everyone has a similar story.

Someone needs to tear the cover off this adoption agency ruse.   Commercial after commercial of skinny malnourished animals begging us to adopt a dog yet everyone who tries, can’t and each account is similar.  We’re made to feel guilty if we buy a puppy, because of these images yet, no one seems to know where any of these adaptable dogs are or they don’t exist.  Do they have dogs to adopt or not?  I’m guessing most don’t but continue to pretend they do to keep capturing our info.

So if anyone out there knows a breeder of hypoallergenic dogs, I’m in the market to add another member to his loving family.  A smallish to medium-sized pooch that LOVES to walk, sniff, play, get belly rubs, and cuddle with me during a Leaf game I’m in.

Hit me up at [email protected].

PS: I’m sure there are great rescues and good orgs that care about the adoption process.  I just haven’t found one yet.
