You’re on drugs, if you think Henry Cejudo deserves a “super fight” with TJ Dillashaw

Let me start by saying Henry Cejudo vs. T.J. Dillashaw is not a “super fight.”

T.J. Dillashaw has more than enough star power to hold up his end of the “super fight” title, but Henry Cejudo does not. The newly crowned Flyweight Champion immediately called out the winner of Dillashaw vs. Garbrandt at UFC 227. Which in my mind is absolute lunacy.

How Cejudo feels that he deserves an opportunity of that magnitude after barely inching out a split decision win over Demetrious Johnson is beyond me. If anything, an immediate rematch seems more likely; as Johnson had held the Flyweight title since 2012, defending it a total of 11 times.

If we’re being honest, Cejudo shouldn’t have even won the Flyweight title to begin with. Typically when a Championship fight comes down to a split decision with the Champion taking little to no damage, the Champion is given the nod. In this case, Johnson was not given that respect.

The counter argument for Henry Cejudo getting this fight is that Conor McGregor received a shot at the Lightweight title without defending his Featherweight Championship. The difference is that Conor McGregor is a massive star, while Cejudo is not. Cejudo isn’t even a draw in general.

If anyone should get a title shot against T.J. Dillashaw, it should be Dominick Cruz. In 2016 Dominick Cruz defeated T.J. Dillashaw to win the Bantamweight title. There’s a history there that fans like myself, care about. I want to see Dillashaw attempt to correct his last lost, and I want to see both Cruz and Dillashaw attempt to cement themselves as the greatest Bantamweight in UFC history.

I don’t care to see Henry Cejudo fight T.J. Dillashaw, because he hasn’t accomplished anything truly great. Granted he beat one of the greatest Champions in UFC history, but even a lost squirrel finds a nut once in a while. He also lost to Johnson via TKO at UFC 197. So if anything, that further cements the need for an immediate rematch.

Regardless of how you put it, there’s really no need to see Dillashaw vs. Cejudo.
