Best Bets Find Us Cheering For The Astros + Other Action Around The MLB / WNBA

Aug 18, 2023

As I mentioned in my latest piece, the Blue Jays find themselves in a situation where they can’t afford to lose a weekend series, and neither can the Reds. At this point, it’s too stressful and heartbreaking betting on the Jays. The only bet I’ve been comfortable placing on the bluebirds these days is the under

So instead, let’s switch gears and look at the other options around the diamond that directly affect the Blue Jays Wild Card standings, well, one for sure.

Josh Elijah: Houston Astros Moneyline (-134)
Best Odds: Pinnacle

I always feel dirty betting on the Astros but this one feels warranted. The Stros take on the visiting Mariners this weekend in Houston and they open up with J.P. France (9-3) taking the mound against Bryce Miller (7-4). Look, this one may be betting with a little bit of my heart, but the Jays need the Mariners to slow down a bit. The M’s have swept Angels and the Padres, ran into a little bit of trouble with the red-hot Orioles, and then back to sweeping the Royals. Now, they face a team that is in direct competition for a Wild Card spot. While I don’t think the Jays or the Mariners will catch the Astros, a series win in Houston this weekend would help the Jays while they try to figure out the Reds, who are also fighting for a Wild Card spot.

George Lambrakos: Chicago White Sox/Colorado Rockies Under 12.5 Runs
Best Odds: DraftKings

Ah yes, the good ol’ under at Coors Field (3-1 this season). Two atrocious teams that we don’t have business watching but can’t help not touching. Look, Kopech (5-10)takes the bump and while his record doesn’t reflect it, his ERA is at 4.58? We don’t know what we’re getting with Lambert (2-4, 5.46) but neither team can hit or pitch so let’s just hope the ball doesn’t carry well, which it usually does in this ballpark.

For the record, this one could easily go over in a 9-8 final. But 12.5 runs is too high and tempting so we’re sticking with our under guns.

Team: Baltimore Orioles Runline -1.5 (EVEN)
Best Odds: Pinnacle

Let’s keep this short and sweet. The runline should be set at 2.5 but for some reason the O’s are set at 1.5 at even odds. Kyle Gibson (11-7) gets the start against, who cares, it’s the Athletics. Look out of these guys, the A’s just blew out the Cardinals 8-0 as they’ve now won 3 of their last 10. Riding a bit of a hot streak if you ask me.

Jesse McKay: Connecticut Sun Moneyline (-122)
Best Odds: Betano

Over to the WNBA as our women’s basketball specialist Bird is taking the Sun (21-9) over the Dallas Wings (16-14) Friday night. While most people looks to the New York Liberty or Las Vegas Aces as the two powerhouses in the league, Connecticut has been playing great ball securing the #2 seed in the East. Dallas holds the second spot in the west as well, but with the spread at 2.5 play it safe with the moneyline at these odds.
