Vanderbilt University’s Sarah Fuller will suit up for today’s Power 5 football game against the University of Missouri, and she might play. If she does, the young kicker will make history as the first female to play in an NCAA Power 5 football game.

Fuller is a goalkeeper for Vanderbilt University’s championship soccer team, and last week tried out for, and won, a vacated roster spot on the all-male football squad.

Fuller is so close to that glass ceiling. Closer than a field goal from the centre of the ten-yard line.

Vanderbilt’s record so far this season is 0-7. Bad. Like watching the Ottawa Senators try to do hockey bad. Vanderbilt’s football program has nothing to lose, and they need good press. And the school is tweeting like Fuller will make history some time after kick-off against Missouri, today at 11am EST.

This story has circulated widely, and Fuller already has endorsements from all sorts of sports fans – from college football fans who hate Vanderbilt but love this good news story, to infamous glass ceiling smasher Billie Jean King, the tennis legend.
