Asante Samuel Ruined The Patriots Perfect Season in 2007. Now Matthew Judon is Telling Him to “Hush up” in 2023

Mar 31, 2023

The head coach of the New England Patriots, Bill Belichick, has been known to have a stern coaching style throughout his career in the NFL. Former players have spoken up about their negative experiences with Belichick, including Danny Amendola who referred to him as an “asshole” after leaving the team to join the Miami Dolphins. However, former Patriot and two-time Super Bowl champion Asante Samuel has been the most vocal about his issues with the coach. Samuel, who was drafted by the Patriots in 2003, has claimed that Belichick is not a good coach and that the team’s success between 2001-2018 was due to recently retired quarterback Tom Brady.

Recently, Patriots owner Robert Kraft revealed that he had received a text message from rapper Meek Mills stating that Baltimore Ravens free agent quarterback Lamar Jackson was interested in playing for New England. This led Samuel to tweet out a warning to Jackson, stating that he would not want to play for Belichick. While some Tom Brady fans agreed with Samuel’s statement, current Patriots player Matthew Judon spoke out against the negative comment. Judon tweeted back to Samuel, stating “Hush up. It’s different over here.”

Some fans accused Judon of throwing current quarterback Mac Jones under the bus with his comments, but Judon clarified that he was defending Bill Belichick and the organization. The Patriots have a reputation for being a successful team, with Belichick coaching them to six Super Bowl victories. Regardless of any negative comments from former players, the team remains committed to their coach and strives for success on the field.

Asante Samuel is Bitter For Not Being Overpaid After Ruining the Patriots Perfect Season

As a die-hard fan of the New England Patriots, one former player that I cannot stand is Asante Samuel. To be frank, his bitterness is absurd. Notably, during his stint with the team, there wasn’t a single player from his era who shared his views on Bill Belichick, which, to me, proves that his digging is unwarranted. So, to see a present-day Patriots player in Matthew Judon taking a stand for his head coach, I feel like justice has been served.

Usually, I prefer to ignore people like Asante Samuel, but in his case, I can’t help but recall the time he cost New England the perfect season. You may remember the fantastic “helmet catch” that sent the New York Giants to victory over the Patriots in Super Bowl XLII. But do you know what happened before that? Asante Samuel had a shot at picking off a pass that would have sealed the game for the Patriots. But instead, he allowed it to slip through his fingers, essentially ending the Patriots bid for a flawless season.

What infuriates me is that he does not acknowledge he failed to deliver when it mattered most. Meanwhile, he is only too keen to use his social media presence to berate the coach who gave him his break into the NFL. Now, I’ve been labeled as a Belichick loyalist, but I have criticized Belich when it’s warranted. However, I cannot condone the way that Samuel bashes the coach who made him. In my opinion, that is just ridiculous.

I can’t help but hope that Asante Samuel will heed Matthew Judon’s wise counsel and just “hush up.” The bottom line is that he didn’t make the play when it counted most, and he should own it. Enough said.
