HERE ARE YOUR CFL BEST BETS FOR WEEK 1

Griff Bordignon Jun 5, 2024

Folks, we’re back. CFL season starts tomorrow night and we’re back to previewing and betting all of the CFL games between now and Grey Cup Sunday in November, so let’s get things started, shall we?

We start with a Grey Cup rematch, where the Blue Bombers are hosting last year’s Grey Cup champion Montreal Alouettes to kick off the 2024 season. When previewing this week’s slate on the latest YWC Football Talk, the spread stands out to me, Winnipeg is a -7.5 favourite and I will be honest with you, I don’t like it at all, not one bit. Montreal covers the +7.5 point spread at -110 on the road, if this was like -4 or -3.5, I would lean toward Winnipeg, but I like Montreal to keep it close but I think Winnipeg wins.

Friday night has the return of Bo Levi Mitchell to Cowtown, Calgary Alberta. A battle of two teams who had disappointing 2023 seasons and going into 2024, I think that could continue for either side. Meanwhile, for this game, I am going with the revenge factor and the homecoming of Bo will help lead the Tabbies to a 1-0 start on the season, I am so confident in Hamilton that I am bumping up the -1.5 spread to -2.5 which. is -102 on FanDuel as of this writing. I am not big on the Stamps heading into 2024 and Bo Levi is determined to bounce back after an injury riddle in 2023. This bet is what I call, Griff’s Lock of the Week.

Saturday’s game was moved to the afternoon as the Oilers game takes more importance. We’ve got the Riders and Elks going head to head in a battle for third place in the west potentially. On one side, an Edmonton team trying to find their identity after seeing some light with young QB Tre Ford towards the end of the season, and a Saskatchewan team establishing a new culture under HC Corey Mace. Now back to the game, I like the over of 46.5 points for -110. This game has the potential for a shootout and 46.5 means 24-23 which is a very doable score in my opinion, for fun if you want, new RB AJ Ouellette is -114 to go over his total yardage of 75.5.

We end with the game I will be boots on the ground for with the Toronto Argonauts hosting the BC Lions, last year’s game was electric and one of the last times the Argos was a betting underdog and Sunday, they’re a massive underdog at +5.5 and we’re 2-1 as an underdog in 2023 and counter to that, BC was 7-8-1 as a favourite and had 5-4-1 ATS record away from home. Meanwhile, Toronto was 8-2 ATS at home in 2023, now QB is different for now but coach Dinwiddie will put all players in a position to succeed on Sunday night, Toronto ML +215, inject it into my vision. Also if you want to have fun, CFL Top 50 snub, DaVaris Daniels +190 ATD is a bet worth taking.

Happy betting and let’s start 2024, hot.

Hi, my name is Griff and I'm a complete sports nut. I love to play sports, watch sports and most importantly bet on sports too. If I'm not watching or betting on sports, you can find me on the golf course, between the pipes as your average beer league goaltender. Although sports take up most of my life, I also love spending time with my two dogs, streaming usually a 90's Simpson's or attempting to read more books.
