Yes, we are headed to the Canadian Open this weekend. I mean how can we not? The PGA Tour is the talk of the town right now with their recent announcement about merging with the ‘evil empire’ LIV Tour.

The Canadian Open boasts an impressive heritage as the world’s third-oldest national championship, tracing its origins all the way back to 1904. Its extensive past is steeped in rich history, characterized by alternating annual rotations and extended stays at specific venues. Notably, Glen Abbey stands out as a prime example of a long-standing location. However, this year marks a momentous shift as the tournament takes place at Oakdale Country Club, situated within the bustling metropolitan area of Toronto.

In the previous edition of the Canadian Open, a gripping spectacle unfolded, cementing its status as one of the most memorable events of the year. Rory McIlroy displayed his exceptional skills by outdueling Tony Finau and Justin Thomas at a pivotal moment for the PGA Tour. Coinciding with the launch of LIV Golf’s inaugural tournament in London, the Canadian Open provided a thrilling showdown. With three outstanding players lighting up the course over the weekend, the stage was set for an enthralling climax. Rory’s remarkable finish of 65-62 not only secured his victory but also successfully defended his Canadian Open title from 2019. Due to the unfortunate circumstances caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, the tournament had been cancelled in both 2020 and 2021. As a result, Rory stands as the sole champion since Dustin Johnson’s triumph at Glen Abbey in 2018.

Oakdale Country Club, a renowned Canadian establishment, holds the distinction of being a classic club founded in 1926. It boasts a remarkable 27-hole layout, with 18 of those holes masterfully crafted by the esteemed designer Stanley Thompson. Notably, Thompson also lent his expertise to the creation of last year’s course at St. George’s, further solidifying his reputation. In the late 1950s, an additional 9 holes were incorporated, resulting in the club’s current configuration of 27 magnificent holes.

In line with the customary approach in such scenarios, the tournament at Oakdale Country Club will feature a composite routing of these exceptional holes. This means that a captivating medley will be formed by skillfully combining and matching the available 27 holes, ensuring a unique and exciting golfing experience for all participants.

Let’s not forget Canada’s best hole. The Rink. This year taking place on the 14th hole a Par 3 172. This hole is a Waste Management Classic lite version. The crowd goes crazy and hammers the boards as the golfers walk up.

It will be a great weekend and a few of the boys from Crier will be there to capture it all.
