The Canadian Government is Considering Banning Fox News In Canada

May 4, 2023

I hate censorship, but an American “Fox News” is in the Canadian media henhouse.

“Egale” is the group that lobbied the CRTC (Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission) into activating the idea. Eagle is “Canada’s leading organization for 2SLGBTQI people and issues. We improve and save lives through research, education, and awareness and advocacy for human rights and equality in Canada and worldwide. Our work helps create societies and systems that reflect the universal truth that all persons are equal and none is other.”

On May 4, 2023, the Canadian Radio-television Commission (CRTC) opened a Part 1 Application (2023-0210-8 – Egale Canada) for the removal of Fox News from the list of non-Canadian programming services authorized for distribution. This is in response to Egale’s submission to the CRTC on Fox News being in clear violation of Canadian broadcasting standards – as Fox News incites hate, violence, and discrimination in its programming against the 2SLGBTQI people and other equity-deserving communities.

Fox has used the “we’re not a real news outlet defence” in 100 lawsuits over the past five years. They aren’t just a right-wing affirmation platform for religious zealots; they are THE nexus for worldwide disinformation. A platform that willingly legitimizes disinformation, hate speech, and anti-Canada propaganda intent on being a pay-for-play blowhorn for theocratic fascists and old-stock evangelicals who hate democracy. The RT of America doesn’t just repeat hate speech; they get paid to create it.

Tucker Carlson’s firing and subsequent “Sure, I lied, but everyone lies” should be enough to separate Fox News from Canada’s cable offering. Not to mention the admission they lied about Jan. 6 (for money) during the Dominion Voting Systems trial and settlement, The Ailes and O’Reilly payoffs for sexual harassment, the ongoing vilification of the LGBTQ community, and the debasing of Canada as a totalitarian dictatorship that beats rednecks and Christians with horses and Beaver Tails.

Source: Carlson, known for sharing white nationalist conspiracy theories with 2.5 million Americans five nights a week, just dropped twotrailers that portray Canada as an authoritarian hellhole where citizens are jailed for protesting against the government. They highlight interviews with a constellation of figures featured on Rebel News, a far-right Canadian outlet that depicted anti-lockdown protesters as victims of Liberal stormtroopers.

The scenes include two pastors who were locked up for violating COVID public health laws. Populist leader Maxime Bernier, who was arrested for attending a rally that violated pandemic gathering restrictions, and Rebel News broadcasters Alexandra Lavoie and David Menzies all claim to have been roughly treated by police.

But the star of the film appears to be Lauren Southern, a telegenic 27-year-old documentary filmmaker from Surrey, B.C., with a long track record as a white-nationalist provocateur. Southern is shown shooting in the wilderness, lamenting Canadian gun laws (we have bears in trees, she points out). In a sit-down interview at Fox’s California studio, she tells Carlson that the situation is “absolutely maddening.”

“We’ve just found out our elections were almost entirely rigged by the Chinese government,” she says, referring to the recent scandal over Beijing’s alleged election meddling. “Canadians are living in a state of absolute fear of our government, and we’re not even sure if our government is controlled in Canada or overseas.”

“Whether your democracy is real or not, of course, that’s a familiar feeling to Americans,” says Carlson.

The trailers feature unflattering images of Trudeau – including a Hitleresque rendering of his face – and clips of American leaders announcing military strikes in Iraq and Libya. The implication? That the US should consider a shock and awe campaign in Ottawa.

The premise, of course, is laughable, and about as absurd as Fox’s attacks on Dominion Voting Systems, or Carlson’s 2022 special, which promoted testicle tanning. Canada’s lifesaving COVID restrictions were imposed by democratically elected governments and backed by a majority of voters.

Fox News is a danger to Canadians. Stupid racist ones, specifically. They are the US equivalent of Russia Today (banned from Canada after the convoy and days into their illegal invasion of Ukraine) and do the bidding of their financial relationships. It’s a daily affirmation medium for hateful conservatives and dumb Americans who need someone to confirm their cognitive bias and hatred. Canadians who need FOX NEWS are even dumber. They watch it for ammunition, not to be informed.

It’s a matter of time before something like this happens in Canada BECAUSE of Fox News and their firehose of shit-filling the minds of Canadians with fear of the “woke war” that needs to be fought by you. It’s ALL bullshit.

Bell, Rogers, and other cable providers will fight this because a few million Canadians pay them to subscribe to Fox. They fought canceling RT and will fight against removing Fox. Broadcasters in Canada are as valueless as the people they appoint to the CRTC.

The US isn’t an “enemy state.” Rogers and Bell execs (Rogers especially) are friends with Fox execs, so Fox won’t get cancelled by the CRTC anytime soon. Canadian Fox News fans will drive a narrative about how the LGBTQ community can’t push them around. Pierre Poilievre will use it to decry gatekeepers and censorship in attack ads, and extremists on both sides will keep fighting about their freedom to watch/cancel Fox News while the rest of us laugh at the sexual tension between Laura Ingraham (would) and Sean Hannity in social media clips while avoiding it like the fucking plague.
