VIDEO: How soon to a ‘New Internet’? The guy who invented the WWW wants another crack at it!

Have you heard about this yet?! Tim Berners-Lee, the guy who invented the navigation system World Wide Web (and was knighted for it) is building a ‘new internet’. No shit. A new internet! And the best thing? YOU control your data!

Apparently Berners-Lee is not happy with how the WWW ended up and wants a mulligan. Do a little online digging and you’ll see that Tim isn’t a fan of how major corporations place restrictions on what he intended to be a free world.

So since the pandemic hit, he’s put on his creativity helmet and is now poised to take on Big Tech with his startup Inrupt! And he says, “The intent is world domination”!

WHAT IS IT? HOW DOES IT WORK?

Inrupt is built on the ‘Solid’ platform. Berners-Lee designed it to be like the early days of the internet. The idea being you get a “SOLID ID” and a Solid pod when you log on the platform. The pod is where you store your data (eliminating the need for apps like Google Drive) and YOU decide whether to give an app access to your data.

Berners-Lee says he’s making the platform open source and an escape from the data mining we currently see with companies like Google and Facebook.

Interesting, right?

Do you think we need a ‘new internet’?
