Episode 23 – Sports Marchness Rolls On
About the Episode
Hosted by Paul C. Cuthbert and Robert Kuney.
Another Wednesday, another heaping helping of radio lasagna tonight from your Sports Honchos. The show kicked off with quite the variety show feel: the death of Lou Otten, inventor of the cassette tape, Rob’s Top 40 radio days, Burger King screwing up International Women’s Day, and a fleshlight for dogs. (Yes, you read that correctly.)
The Honchos cracked open the bag of sports by following up on two stories from last week – the “Eyes of Texas” at the University of Texas and Greg McDermott, head coach of the Creighton men’s basketball team. This was followed by a look at two schools with coaches in trouble – Kansas and Arizona.
After an impromptu tribute to the late Walter Gretzky, father of Wayne, the Honchos celebrated the return of the NHL to ESPN. In the NBA segment the Honchos covered Blake Griffin to the Nets and the remarks of Meyers Leonard of the Miami Heat (with an assist from Julian Edelman). The Honchos then turned their attention to the MLB and their scheduled tribute to Lou Gehrig, and discussed the Texas Rangers having a full stadium for Opening Day.
The NFL recap was QB heavy with the new contracts for Dak Prescott and Ben Roethlisberger and the waiting game with respect to Deshaun Watson, Russell Wilson, and Sam Darnold.
The Honchos brought the extravaganza to a close with Seconds of Soccer, the strange case of the Arlington (TN) HS girls’ basketball team, and, of course, the Dope of the Week. This week’s winner? Dan Snyder, owner of the Washington Football Team.
